      Alstroemeriaceae

The Alstroemeriaceae family, commonly known as the alstroemeria family, has an interesting story. The family is named after a Swedish baron named Clas Alströmer who was a close friend and student of the famous botanist Carl Linnaeus. Alströmer returned from a trip to South America in the 1700s with several specimens including the now-famous alstroemeria flower, which he named after himself. The alstroemeria flower is now widely cultivated throughout the world for its beauty and long vase life, making it a popular flower for gardens and commercial floral arrangements alike.
